Many people have asked what Shiloh does when she’s not managing the Dog’s Life Coffee Company.

Happy Birthday, Shiloh! It’s been a fast and fantastic journey for Shiloh as she recently turned one year old! The sky’s the limit for this Chocolate Labrador Retriever. At the age of only 4 months, she became the Office Manager at Dog’s Life Coffee Company. She immediately incorporated changes throughout the company, including unlimited naps, treats and extended play breaks. With her piercing brown eyes and deep, compassionate expression, she instantly melted the heart of everyone she met. On her off-time, she likes to hike, go to the park, and has recently discovered walking on the beach. Meanwhile, she has gone from a tiny pup to a growing girl and has quite a bit of growing yet to go. Congratulations, Shiloh!

Each year the American Humane presents the 2022 American Hero Dog award. Nominations are open for this annual, nationwide competition through March 16, 2022. Last year, the 2021 award winner was Boone, a therapy dog that survived heartbreaking cruelty that resulted in the loss of his back legs. Boone found the love and care he needed from his adopted family who fitted him with a wheelchair to help him with mobility. Boone inspires people and dogs alike to overcome the obstacles life throws at them. This year, 7 nominees will be featured, but only one will be awarded the American Hero Dog title. Take a few moments to read about the past winners and their inspirational stories. If you know a hero dog that you would like to nominate, and to see past winners, details can be found here: https://herodogawards.org/

Shiloh has been deeply pondering the incredible breakthroughs and advances that will happen this year. Here is what she predicts for 2022: Dogs will surpass people in intelligence. In fact, in many cases, they already have. Instead of having a backlog of time consuming and under-available COVID testing, dogs will be trained to smell and identify COVID. Dog’s will lead the way back to normalcy. A bark translator will be invented to convert Dog language to English. Get ready for some fascinating and perhaps shocking discussions with your best friend! A retriever will become the first professional canine to play in a Major League outfield. Occasionally, once they catch the ball, they won’t give it back! Coaches, players, and stadium staff will all be running around trying to get the ball. Just what the fans and league need for new excitement and ratings! Shiloh will be handpicked to star as the new James Bond (00-Woof). Look for “Bark Another Day” in theaters and streaming. Finally, all animals will be rescued. No more cruelty. No more neglect. Ever.

It was the night of Christmas Eve and Shiloh was enjoying herself running out and playing in the fresh snow. Jumping around and prancing in the cold was fun! This definitely was her favorite time of year. Warm houses filled with joy and holiday cheer always left Shiloh feeling so happy! As Shiloh explored in the snow, she smelled something funny. What the heck? She followed the smell and it led her into a snow-blanketed forest. Hmm… This is interesting... Shiloh passed some bushes and in front of her stood a reindeer! The reindeer looked spooked, and it bounded away. Shiloh tried to follow it, but it was just too fast. Another reindeer was running through the trees as well “Dasher! Donner!” A voice yelled out. Shiloh ran to the voice and oh my goodness! It was Santa! Santa’s sleigh was in the snow and two of his reindeer were all nowhere to be found. “Oh no…” He said and frowned before noticing Shiloh. “Shiloh!” He exclaimed with a smile and patted her head. “Will you help me find Dasher and Donner? I can’t deliver all these presents without them!” Santa said and pointed to the back of his sleigh where his giant sack of presents resided. Shiloh barked happily and ran back into the forest where she was before. Santa followed her with two leads in his hands. Shiloh stood still for a few moments and listened. The snow was so quiet you could barely hear it fall. In the distance, there was a faint jingling sound. Shiloh ran to the jingles with Santa. There in an opening, eating some flowers was Donner! Donner raised his head and walked over to Santa. “Hello, Donner,” Santa said with a jolly smile. He hooked Donner to one of the leads. Now they just had to find Dasher. He couldn’t be that far away and the snow began to stop. “Dasher!” Santa called out. They stood silently to listen for more jingle bells but they didn’t hear anything. They walked through the forest but there was still no sign of Dasher. The forest came to an end and some houses were now visible. Dasher was also now visible. He was visiting a certain windowsill. A windowsill with a cooling apple pie on it. Dasher was eating the pie and spilling crumbs and filling everywhere! It got into his fur and all over the wooden windowsill. Om nom nom! So yummy! “Dasher!” Santa whisper yelled. “Dasher, now Stop!” It was too late. The pie was gone but at least Dasher was happy. He pranced over to Santa who hooked him up to another lead. Santa felt very guilty about the ruined pie and the mess it made. Santa twirled a finger and the remaining pie pieces poofed out of existence. He reached into one of his pockets and pulled out a very nicely wrapped present. He placed it where the pie once was and began to walk back to his sleigh with Donner and Dasher in tow. Each step they took made the bells on the reindeers’ harnesses jingle loudly. Santa grimaced at the noises, and he tried to pick up the pace. He didn’t want anyone to see him or his reindeer. Shiloh followed Santa back to his sleigh where he attached both the reindeers onto their respective spots of the lineup. The reindeer all looked happy to be back together. They sniffed each other and their tails calmly swished from side to side. Santa pet Shiloh’s head with a smile before boarding his sleigh. “Thank you, Shiloh!” Santa said and Shiloh watched as he took to the skies on his sleigh. “Ho! Ho! Ho!” Santa shouted and tossed a toy bone down to Shiloh. Shiloh caught the bone and pranced back to her house. Her humans were making cookies and one of them was talking about a disappearing pie. Shiloh laid down in her comfortable bed and chewed on her new favorite toy. “Thank you, Santa!”

Shiloh and friends Tanner and Monty arrived at a spooky Halloween-themed party just as the sun was setting. The party was hosted at a large ranch where many people and their pets were welcomed. There were many games and activities to do. Visitors enjoyed bean bag tossing and pumpkin carving contests. Even barrels for apple bobbing were there. All these games had prizes of a small candy or toy, but one reward stood out to the dogs. A delicious basket of different dog goodies! Little pumpkin treats, bat snacks, moon chews, toys and so much more! It even smelled so good. Yummy! Everyone hushed and listened carefully to hear how to win this delectable present… To win the basket a dog must find three hidden toy spiders around the ranch. They must retrieve a pumpkin from the field, and they must complete the corn maze. Shiloh turned to her pals, and they all nodded their heads in eagerness. Dogs around Shiloh were already so excited for the competition to be started. Their tails wagged in the air and they all looked very determined. So was Shiloh. 1… 2… 3… GO!!! All the dogs took off, speeding around the barnyard looking for their toy spiders. Shiloh did the same, looking around the barn stalls first. She found one on top of a lump of hay. After more exploration of the barn, Shiloh found a spider laying on a chicken nest! She left the barn and looked around. Everyone else was running around frantically. Not many spiders were left. Shiloh zoomed around but had no luck. She looked everywhere but no dice. Other dogs had already found their three spiders and were heading off to the pumpkin patch. Something bumped into Shiloh, and she saw it was Tanner! He only had one spider, but he gave it to Shiloh. Shiloh sped off to the pumpkin fields. Everyone was gnawing at the stem of their pumpkins, trying to free them. They all chose quite big pumpkins. Some looked even too big to be carried. Light bulb! Shiloh found a small white pumpkin with an even smaller stem. She plucked the little pumpkin carefully and dashed back to the barn. Putting down her items, it was time for the corn maze. Tanner was alarmed by the maze and chose to not go through it. Shiloh raced to the cornfield and slipped into the corn maze. Left... Left… Right...Left… Right… She looked in front and behind her but didn’t see or hear any other dogs. She did hear some rustling from the corn, however. The sky was growing darker by the second and that scared her. What was that? More rustling came from the corn stalks next to her. Uh oh! The sound grew louder and louder for a few moments before it went silent. Poof! Ah!!! Wait… It was Monty! He yipped happily at Shiloh and bounced around. Shiloh felt relieved and smiled that he wasn’t some monster or the vet. Monty began to walk briskly. Shiloh was surprised but followed him. He really knew where to go! The sky was already much deeper into the night, but Shiloh trusted her little friend. She wondered how he knew his way so flawlessly but chose not to ask. From much aways, the duo could hear the other dogs progressing through the maze. Monty and Shiloh picked up their pace. Monty knew they were almost at the end! They saw the exit to the maze and bounded their way out. Tanner was even there waiting for them! Shiloh was the first out and she celebrated by running around happily. Back at the barn, Shiloh was awarded the basket of yummies. She was so happy! Her friends were happy too and Shiloh chose to share all her prizes with them. They did all work together very well, so it was much appreciated. It was then time to go home and snooze. Everyone slept like a rock that night, exhausted from playing around all day. Shiloh rested soundly with a ghost toy in her arms. Happy Halloween, pups!

Shiloh and all her friends salute service dogs and search and rescue dogs. These heroes have saved thousands of lives over time and helped rescuers during 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, and wherever disaster occurs. There are monuments and statues to dogs that recognize their heroism in many places all over the world. Please see this touching news story of Bretagne, the last known 9/11 search and rescue dog and her last days in 2016.

Shiloh, the Office Manager at Dog’s Life Coffee, has been Employee of the Month every month since she was 2 months old. Her influence on everyone around her has been dramatic. Each desk now has a sleeping area and tug toys are readily available all through the office. She has a magnetic personality, and people just can’t walk by without stopping to say hello and chatting. Talk about leadership style, if you make a mistake, she forgives you. But if something’s amiss, she can sniff it out easily. We are proud of Shiloh and congratulate her for her Employee of the Month recognition!
